Why did the Chicken Cross the Road?

I played in my first ever mtt today. I've never felt so out of place. I've played them before, but that was prior to having some sort of "knowledge" about the game. That's why I consider it too be my first time. I felt so ridiculously uncomfortable playing. I had no idea what I was doing and I didn't really enjoy it. I don't like doing something and feeling out of place and clueless. I have no idea if my plays were correct and I have a feeling they weren't. Anyhoo here are some hands:

1) I'm pretty embarrassed about how I played this hand. At the showdown I literally said "ugh" in disgust with myself.
big sigh

2) This is a hand I'm interested to receive feedback about. My read on this villain was simple: "loved to be in control, folds to aggression." Therefor with my hand, do I want to be letting villain lead the way? At what street, do I take control of this hand? On the river, is my value bet ok? Should I have went for the hat trick and checked a third time?
castles

3) Am I getting odds to call this flop? This is basically the exact flop I wanna see, correct? What do we do if either villian jams?
balls

4) No idea if this is the correct play. In some ways I feel like its a simple fold, in others I feel like it's an insta-jam. Love to hear other (better) players opinions here. Is it too nitty folding to this small a bet into the pot?
Weak

5) "Never go broke in a limped pot" I think I understand alot more clearly.
:(

Any replies are greatly appreciated. If I didn't play a single hand correctly please tell me. I really want to improve my game, and I need your (collective you) help in doing this. Please hold nothing back, except for just being condescending. Please grade my play honestly.

Ulysses

Greetings,

I haven't been up too much. The Texans game was a great time, even though they lost. One thing, as a team, that you hope for after a loss like that, is that your team remained healthy. Unfortunately for us, that wasn't the case. We lost one of best lineman for the year. Andre was already out, and now we've lost our 2nd string WR and rookie phenom, Jacoby Jones. Ahman Green (rb) and Ron Dayne (rb) are both banged up as well but expected to play Sunday against the Falcons.

Haven't played much poker lately but what I have played I've been happy with. I've been succesful as of late and it's basically due to the fact that I'm really reading my oppenents well, and I always feel like I'm in control in the tourneys I've played.

Here's an example.

I can't explain what it was, but I knew this guy had nothing. We had battled a couple times before and it always lead to me bluffing him on the river. I knew he was sick of it and wanted to outplay me one time. I was about 90% sure I had the best hand.

Cannon in D Major

I just played four sit an go's and took down all 4. It's exciting because I didn't even run well, I just played great. I also listened to a little bit of classical music while playing, it definitely helps and I will continue too when I play. It's very soothing music to listen too and quite good. Any suggestions on certain songs I should listen too would be awesome if you left them in the comments. I'm still trying to discover whats good and bad in classical music.

What style of music do you listen to when you play?

My brother and I finally bought a house. Well, he bought it and I'll be renting out a room. I'm pretty excited to get in there but we still have to wait for a couple more weeks while some of the inspections and things like that go down. Once we've moved in and got the place how we want it, I'll post some pics. It's a 1200 sq ft house with three bedrooms(we have another roommate) and two baths. It feels bigger than 1200 sq ft. I really like the design of the house and am excited to take this big step in my life.

Got Texans tickets for Sunday vs. the Colts. By no means did I expect to win but any hope went out the window when Andre Johnson came out announced that he wouldn't be able to play. The Texans are starting to worry me, because they are being very hush-hush about the injury. Any sprain (slight tear) in the knee is a big deal, yet anytime the injury is brought up, it's quickly dismissed. I bet 'Dre ends up missing more than just this one week. I've got a bad gut feeling about this injury. At any rate, keeping the ball out of the best quarterback in the NFL's hands (no, I'm not talking about brady) is going to be the key to winning. He can and will single handedly beat pick apart the defense so keeping him and his 5 weapons (RB-Addai, WR-Harrison, WR-Wayne, TE-Clark, Rookie Slot Man and Speedster-Gonzales) on the sidelines is vital.

Time to go to bed.

tired of 2nd...

Today was a pretty uneventful day. I have the whole weekend off and pretty excited about it. I went to our mall nearby and checked out the new imacs. I almost impulse bought one for 1700 but my brother talked me out of it, thankfully. It went like this:

Me: Dude, i'm fixin to buy a new imac.
Him: what, like now?
Me:yea
Him: oh.....well I have a 100 dollar gift card that you should use first....besides you should wait a couple months till the new operating system and processors are released.
Me: I can just install the new operating system and I heard the new processors weren't that a big deal.
Him: oh
Me: (about 30 minutes later) yea, I think I'm just going wait
Him: That’s probably a wise decision.

haha, well after just staring at them and drooling I decided that not buying one now is probably the best. I'm going to have to start paying rent and I need to see if I can first handle that. Also, I need to wait for the new operating system and processors. Seeing as how he's 100% correct. Damn him.

I'm sick of 2nd places. I just played seven short stt's and got 2nd in five of them. Some would be happy with this, but I find it unacceptable. A lot of it has to do with my play but honestly, I've been running super bad lately heads up. I'm not going to take all the blame because I feel I played well enough to win them all.

One hand that especially pissed me off occurred with one of the more aggressive players that I got heads up. We were practically even and I was on the button. He was a total calling station preflop and LOVED to outplay opponents after the flop. I find AQ and make my standard 3x raise, he calls. Not shocking at all, and this doesn't thin out his range by any means. Read on for proof. Well the flop comes a beautiful 66q and he checks it too me. Standard. I bet 800 into 1200 pot and he immediately pushes. It's roughly 2000 more to call and it's not that hard a call. He has done this countless times at other points in the tourney and showed big bluffs or been called down and sucked out on the river. I think for a couple seconds and call. He shows 62. gg me

That was a frustrating loss because I pretty much waited for the exact situation only to be behind when it finally came. One of the heads up battles I limped in and didn't really stand a chance so I didn't mind it as much. One I lost AJ to k8 all in preflop. (yes, all in preflop) I lost a coin flip on another and I think I got smashed on the final tourney.

I dunno, I'm just sick of 2nd's. I've got 1st twice out of the past nine times I've made it heads up. The thing that is most frustrating is I consider my heads up game to be my strength. I've just run so badly lately, however I have ran really well at the beginning of the tourneys and attribute that to cashing so often. In the past couple days I've moved my ROI up two percent and with over 1000 games played and not moving up in buy ins that a pretty big accomplishment.

Sorry for being so long and thanks for reading.
Great day ahead as it is College Football Sunday, my favorite days of the year. May head out and get some sushi as well.

9/11 and Texans

Greetings,

Today is September 11th, 2007. Obviously I don't need to explain what this means and the sorrow that floods this day. For me, and like many others it's a very emotional day. I don't know anyone who died that day, but that doesn't matter. We lost great Americans that day, it's tragic and very overwhelming. At my school we had a small 10 minute tribute for the lost and their family and friends at our flag pole. It was very emotional. I can't imagine what it must be like to be from New York City and have to have this feeling even deeper than I have it. Rather than mourn the deaths, we should, as Americans, honor the brave who risked their lives to save the innocent. These men and women acted without consideration for their own lives and didn't so much as blink an eye when their own lives were in danger. This will be a day in history that will never be forgotten and that is a good thing, because these people, and the lives they saved, should never be forgotten. True heroes and it can't be stressed enough.

On a lighter note, as I mentioned in an earlier post my mom and I went to the Texans game and watched the Texans get a "W" against the Kansas City Chiefs. I'm a much bigger college fan (hook'em) but this game was really fun. We had great seats in the endzone and were fortunate enough to have all the action happen right in front of us. Here are some pics:

Matt Schaub, our new quarterback. I was very impressed with his play and hope he continues to play well. He has great pocket presence and eludes the pressure very well. Also he's not David Carr and that can't be expressed enough. On a side note it was really funny to see all the #8 jersey's with Carrs name taped over and Schaubs name written over the tape. In my section and the sections around me there were probably six.

Picture of my favorite player, Andre Johnson. He's an absolute beast and is a very underrated wide receiver. It's not his fualt he plays for the Texans.

Like I said, I'm a big fan. I bought his jersey for the game.

This is the play were Schaub threw a beautiful ball too Andre and he went and got it. Like I say it all happened right in front of us and was freakin' awesome.

Probably the coolest moment of the entire day. The people that held the flag are soldiers that have served in Iraq and their family's. They received a well deserved one minute standing ovation.

What a great time it was! And I look forward to getting to anothet game.

Hope everyone is doing well,

TIlt and Texans...

Greetings,

Well I finally got my Full Tilt account back up and running after many e-mails back and forth. Thats the good thing. The bad thing however, is I'm in school now and hardly have anytime to play. I really need to focus on school now and poker is far down the list on my priorities at this point. For fun lets make my priority list. :)

1.) My family
2.) School
3.) Role model for my younger brothers academically and athletically. (needs lots of work)
4.) Work
5.) Helping my older brother find a house for us to live in. <--------STRESSFUL
6.)My blog ;)
7.) Lots of other things not known as poker
8.) Poker

My mom and I have Houston Texans tickets to the opener versus the Kansas City Chiefs. I'm pretty excited. It should be neat to go to a game and it be just my mom and me. I have three brothers so it makes it very rare to hang out with just her. Not that all of us going to games together is a bad thing, it just will be different to be just me and her. Not to mention, we are the only Texans fans in the family, the other guys side with the Cowboys. We are a very competitive house and it's fun to fight about how terrible the Texans are and how the Cowboys choked last year.

I wanna buy a Texans jersey for the game but the bank account isn't going to allow it unfortunately. Its liberty white day so I guess I'll just go buy a shirt or something.

Oh and also, you ever have one of those days where you have tons to do and you're just not looking forward to all the chores and crap you have to do? Well today was one of those days for me. Problem is, I did nothing. I slept in, 1st mistake.I watched the replay of the Texas Longhorns game (which was long and boring) and went to work. I needed to clean my room and my car (both much worse than you can imagine) and neither got done. Ugh.

Here's to a good tomorrow. Cheers
